Saginaw police say two teens are listed in critical condition after being shot Saturday evening. So far the city has surpassed last years total of seven homicides. Many fear that Saginaw will once again be listed as one of the nations most violent cities.
Saturday evening Saginaw police and emergency responders blocked the intersection of Farwell and 10th streets on the cities east side. Investigators say an eighteen year old was shot in the back, and a sixteen year old was shot in the head and chest.
Detective/Sgt. Joseph Dutoi says, " They got a report about a large amount of shooting going on. when they got up here they found 2 victims who had been shot."
Police find thirty casings at the shooting scene. The two teens are now listed in critical condition. The community is outraged and left speculating about motive. Resident Jason Martin says, " Drugs, people fighting over money, people not spending enough time with their kids."
Community leaders have tried to end the violence but efforts have been limited. Some even point to a broader issue, the availability of guns.
Resident Zelma Thomas says, " I don't know where the guns are coming from and their big guns, guns that's not acquired now."
In 2010 Saginaw police reported seven homicides so far there have been almost double that already. Even more troubling, police are getting virtually no cooperation from witnesses even though dozens were around during this last shooting.
