Mayor Walling says he's looking forward to working with Brown
FLINT -- Former Flint Mayor Michael Brown was appointed by Governor Rick Snyder as Flint's emergency financial manager Tuesday afternoon.
Shortly after the appointment was announced, Flint Mayor Dayne Walling released this statement:
"I look forward to working with Mr. Brown to address the community’s priorities and to secure the City’s financial stability."
Flint has been crippled by a multi-million dollar debt crisis and a dwindling cash flow.
In recent weeks, Walling has laid off some of the city's top economic officials and accepted the resignations of several more.
Brown served as acting mayor of Flint for six months in 2009, after Mayor Don Williamson stepped down.
Brown was eventually replaced by Walling, who was first elected into office in August 2009.
Governor Snyder had this to say about Brown: “Michael Brown has a strong track record of serving the Flint-area community. Given his experience in public, private, and non-profit settings, I’m confident he is well equipped to take on this critical post.”
