FLINT -- A Flint Police Officer was forced to fire his weapon on a man believed to be involved in an early morning break-in at an apartment complex Wednesday.

Around 7:30 a.m., an officer responded to a report of a break-in at an apartment complex on Minnie Street off Court Street west of Ballenger Highway.

While taking the report, the officer heard gunfire and saw a man running with a rifle. The man then pointed the rifle at the officer.  The officer ordered the man to drop the gun, but he refused and took off running through another apartment with the officer in pursuit.

When the suspect turned and pointed the rifle at the officer, the officer shot the suspect in the back.

The suspect is in critical condition.  The officer is expected to be ok.

Police are continuing to investigate this incident.
