SAGINAW COUNTY -- Saginaw County Board of Commissioners have put together a committee to look into the pros and cons of dissoloving the county's road commission.
This move comes on the heels of Governor Rick Snyder signing legislation allowing counties to dissolve road commissions, bringing greater accountability and efficiency to local goverments.
"A lot of people are just trying to figure out what can and can't happen and what's real and what isn't," said Saginaw County Road Commission Director Brian Wendling.
He says the county would save about $30,000 a year by elminating the road commission board and he says it's not enough to make a difference.
"Thirty-thousand in today's day and age doesn't buy the fuel for a truck in a course of a year."
The Saginaw County Road Commission handles handles budget issues and policies. Under Governor Snyder's new law if the road commission is dissolved the Saginaw County Board of Commissioners would take over. Day to day operations would not be affected.
The committee will present its findings to the Saginaw County Board of Commissioners March 20th.
