FLINT -- Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton announced via twitter on Monday that he has charged a Flint teenager for his involvement an alleged dog fighting ring that was busted earlier this month.

The teen will be charged with one count of torturing animals and one count of dog fighting. Animal torture is a four-year felony charge with possible fines up to $5,000 for the first animal and $2,500 for each subsequent animal.  Dog fighting is also a potential four-year felony with fines up to $50,000 and up to 1,000 hours of community service.

He will be tried as a juvenile.

Leyton told MLive the decision to use the jenvile system was made becasue it offers the maximum possible penalty.
