GENESEE COUNTY -- Various cities across mid-Michigan celebrated Memorial Day on Monday with a wide range of parades in honor of the national holiday.

In Burton, residents celebrated the holiday by resurrecting their parade.  It was once considered the largest of it's kind in Genesee County but budget cuts forced the parade to be eliminated last year, as the city faced a half a million dollar budget shortfall.

This year the city was able to raise about $30,000 in largely private funds to bring back the parade.

In Mt. Morris, veterans played a major role in the annual event, however the highlight for many were the firetrucks.

At McFarlan Park the day was marked by a special tribute to World War II veteran Frank Follar.  The army staff sergeant went missing in action back in 1944 and today his name was added to the park's memorial.  NBC25's BIll Harris also spoke at the ceremony.

Finally in Genesee Township, the kids came out not only to watch the parade but also to participate in it.  Floats abounded with excitement and honor for those who have and continue to serve our continue country.
