Room and board rate increase also announced

FLINT -- The University of Michigan Board of Regents has approved tuition increases for both graduate and undergraduate students attending the University of Michigan-Flint next school year.

The three-point-six percent increase for undergraduate students and two-point-eight percent increase for graduate students takes effect for the 2012-13 academic year.

The average in-state undergraduate freshman taking 15 credit hours will now pay $4,757 in tuition and fees per semester.

"We worked very hard to keep it at the absolute minimum we could because we know the sacrifices that our students and their families make for them to attend a university. We also increased institutional financial aid substantially to 5.8% in order to help our students off-set some of the costs," school spokesperson Jen Hogan said.

The school also announced a three percent increase for room and board.
