People all over Genesee County are playing the waiting game, trying to stay cool until the power comes back on. The Mead's are cleaning up what mother nature brought down. A Wednesday morning storm, knocked out power in their Grand Blanc neighborhood. In 40 years, living there it is the worst outage 80 year old Margret Mead has ever endured.

"It’s hot, let’s get out of here,” said Mead.

Adding insult to injury, temperatures are in the nineties and flirting with triple digits. Consumers Energy tells NBC25, in some cases people will not get electricity back until Sunday.

"Taking care of securing the wire down, that is our first and foremost priority, and public safety. Then we can begin restoration," said Mary Kalis who works for Consumers Energy.

Edward Thompson lives down the road from Mead but is sharing a generator to stay cool.

"You wish this on like a 70 degree day, no biggie but being 100, it’s not going to be a good day, or tomorrow or the next day," said Thompson.

Consumers Energy said 14 substations in Genesee county have been hit, and it will take at least two days for power to be restored.

There goes all the food in the freezer, said Mead.
