PHILADELPHIA -- It’s “D-Day” for the USS Edson.  The naval destroyer departed from the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard at 11 a.m. Wednesday, as scheduled.  NBC25’s Bill Harris was there with a handful of people for the emotional send off.

The USS Edson’s two-week and two-day trip to its new home in Bay County has begun.  The Edson will travel up the Eastern seaboard, through the St. Lawrence seaway into Lake Huron, before coming to rest in Bangor Township to become a floating museum at the Saginaw Valley Naval Ship Museum.

Stay with NBC25 for updates on the USS Edson’s journey to its new home.
