6-year-old dead after double shooting

SAGINAW -- Police continue to investigate a double shooting in Saginaw that killed a 6-year-old girl and critically injured her 36-year-old father.

According to the girl's aunt, Yolanda Cope, the victims are identified as six-year-old Layla Jones and her father, 36-year-old Shawrone Jones.  Shawrone was shot twice in the leg and hip.

Police responded to115 Essling Street around 10:30 Wednesday evening. 

Cope owns the home and was welcoming her brother and niece back in town for a birthday party.  Shawrone and Layla are originally from Saginaw but recently moved to Wisconsin.

When officials arrived they found Shawrone suffering from a gunshot wounds. He was taken to a nearby hospital by MMR personnel and is being treated in the ICU.

Police say Layla was taken by witnesses to a local hospital where she later died from gunshot wounds.

No suspects have been identified by Saginaw Police.

Police are holding a press conference Friday morning at 10 to call residents to action.
