CORUNNA -- A dignified and emotional night at Corunna High School.

Around 2,000 people gathered to honor and remember the life of Corunna graduate and soldier, Shane Cantu.

The 20-year old died on August 28 when an explosive device was thrown over the wall of his base in Afghanistan.

Organizers of Friday's vigil say the family wanted the event to be dignified and honor a young man who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

"Very emotional. Very powerful. They came out, I believe, because of not only the person but because of who he represents and the fact that he would give his life for his country. It was emotional, very important, very powerful," says corunna high school principal, Leo Constine.

Constine says he taught Cantu who was a great leader and team player.
