SAGINAW -- Hundreds gathered at the Coleman Temple to remember Lay'la Jones, a much-loved little girl, who many say was taken too soon.

"I thank everybody for coming out and showing so much love for my baby," says mother, Julie Polk.

Lay'la was shot and killed August 29, 2012. Her father, Shawrone, was also shot and injured in the incident.

Thursday, he left the hospital for the first time since the shooting to attend his daughter's funeral.

"He took the time to build himself up and I'm glad he did make it to see the homegoing of his daughter," says Shawrone's brother, Nickolas Jones.

Before returning to the hospital, Shawrone said the community can be responsible for ending the violence that took his little girl's life.

"Friendship. That's all we need in the community right now. Everybody needs to join together," he says.

Saginaw Police are still searching for a man wanted in connection with the shooting.

Officials are searching for Michael Lawrence, 23, who has been charged with premeditated murder.

Three other men have already faced a judge on murder charges.
