A Central Michigan University professor has been charged with four counts of possessing child pornography on his work computer.

CMU says William Merrill, a tenured member of the College of Education and Human Services, was suspended while he faces criminal charges.

The AP reports he was also is charged with misdemeanor possession of a switchblade.

“We take this matter very seriously and have strict policies against this kind of conduct. Public safety is an absolute priority at CMU,” Sherry Knight, interim associate vice president of university communications, said in a news release.

Merrill was charged with 4 counts of possession of child pronography and with possession of a switchblade.
