MID-MICHIGAN -- Dental groups and the Michigan Department of Veterans Affairs are teaming up to raise awareness about dental assistance for veterans.

Dentists across the state are offering veterans information on how they can receive assistance.

Experts say various health problems like diabetes are associated with poor dental hygiene, which is why they are broadening the qualifications to receive assistance.

"A lot of veterans who have requested dental help in the past have been denied but if they have diabetes they may now be able to get some help from the veterans hospital," James Cantwill of the Michigan Dental Association said.
