LANSING (AP) -- Authorities arrested 51 sex offenders last month for failing to comply with Michigan's sex offender registration law.

State police say Friday that officers from more than 90 federal, state and local agencies made checks at registered residences of 1,742 offenders in the two-week operation.

It was the state's ninth annual coordinated sweep.

Michigan's Sex Offenders Registration Act requires registered sex offenders to regularly report to their local law enforcement agency, sheriff's office or nearest state police post to verify their address.

All registered sex offenders also must also report a change of name, address, employment, campus enrollment, Internet identifiers and vehicle within three business days of any change.

More than 40,155 offenders are on the state sex offender registry.
