Cadillac ATS made in Lansing, parts from Flint
Esquire says the new Cadillac ATS may be the most important domestic car since the Model T. It took GM 4 years to build the new Caddy that's competing with the best of the imports.
The car's made in Lansing. It starts with sheet metal formed and cut in Flint on Van Slyke Road. It ends up, rolling off the assembly line at the Lansing Grand River plant, as a testimony to hard work. Car enthusiasts feel its GM's best combination of style and horsepower.
Esquire was so impressed, it made it its Car of the Year. The engine is a 202 HP, 2.4 liter I-4. The ATS Jordon Tuck brought in from Al Serra in Grand Blanc for NBC 25 Today had a turbo under the hood and golf clubs in the trunk. It gets 22 miles per gallon in the city, 33 on the highway. It lists for more that 33 thousand dollars, but the one Tuck brought in topped out at more than 50 grand.
The ads for the new ATS show a couple of 30 somethings winding around curves on a mountain highway. Will it sell cars? Can it compete against Audi, BMW or Lexus? Can people afford this car? Will it return Cadillac to its former slogan, "The Standard of the World"? Stay tuned.
