SANFORD -- The Midland County Sheriff's Department and Saginaw Township police are investigating a missing person complaint involving a 45-year-old Saginaw woman.

Leigh Katherine Swanson was last seen on Friday, Nov. 16 around 6:30 p.m. Her mother called Saginaw Township police to report her daughter's disappearance.

According to her mother, Swanson left the Saginaw Township residence to go on a date with a man she met online. Swanson then reportedly called her mother Sunday, Nov. 18 around noon, saying she was waiting for a ride and would be home by 3 p.m.

Tuesday the Midland County Sheriff's Department then received a tip indicating Leigh was at a home in Sanford. The sheriff’s office was then given the phone number where Leigh had called home from Sunday. Investigators tracked the number and located a name and address in the Sanford area.

Sheriff's deputies then responded to a tip that lead them to the same home in Sanford Swanson called from Nov. 18.

Upon their arrival at the home, deputies heard a gunshot as they were walking to the front door of the home. They took cover and ordered anyone in the home to come out.

An older man eventually came out of the home claiming his son had shot himself. Deputies entered the home and discovered the victim, a 28-year-old male.

Deputies searched the home and called in the Michigan State Police Crime Lab after finding human DNA.

Just before 1:30 p.m. today sheriff's deputies discovered a woman's body in a wooded area in Edenville Township across the street from where the alleged suicide took place.

Police are still waiting to identify the woman's body. An autopsy is planned for this week.

An autopsy for the man is scheduled for 9 a.m. tomorrow.

If you have any information about this case or the whereabouts of Swanson, you are asked to call the Midland County Sheriff's Department at (989) 839-4620, or the Saginaw Township Police Department at (989) 793-2310.
