DETROIT (AP) -- The first changes in Michigan's medical-marijuana law are going to Gov. Rick Snyder -- four years after state voters approved the drug to alleviate side effects of certain illnesses.
State-issued cards would be good for two years instead of one. Lawmakers also passed a bill that puts restrictions on how marijuana can be transported in a vehicle. It would have to be in a case in the trunk or in a case that's not easily accessible.
Lawyers predict that provision will lead to conflicts and more court cases.
Voters approved medical marijuana in 2008. More than 130,000 people have state cards, and another 25,000 people are caregivers who grow marijuana for a patient. Someone convicted of a felony within the last decade now will be barred from being a caregiver.
