U.S. Coast Guard makes 14 weekend rescues

ESSEXVILLE -- U.S. Coast Guard officials say they rescued 14 people from thawing lakes in Bay and Tuscola Counties over the weekend.

The most recent rescue occured early Monday morning around 3:00a.m. Officials say two of the people fell through the ice in the West side of the Saginaw Bay. The Coast Guard assisted local fire departments in safely rescuing the stranded ice fishers.

Members of the Coast Guard also rescued snowmobilers in another incident that happened Sunday evening. They say people became stranded on the East side of the Saginaw Bay.

Members of the Coast Guard say no serious injuries are reported.
