LAMOTTE TOWNSHIP -- Last night in LaMotte Township there was a two-car crash that lead to the death of a Bad Axe woman.

Michigan State Police tell NBC 25 that a 2010 Freightliner van was heading southbound on M-53 when it lost control and struck a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer.

Both vehicles ended up in a ditch along M-53, authorities say.

The driver of the Freightliner, Gerald Pelch, age 38 from Flint, was taken to Marlette Hospital for minor injuries.

There was a passenger in the Freightliner, Phillip Rose of Burton, who was not injured.

The MSP said that the driver of the Trailblazer, Paula Lynn Eckstein, age 49, was pronounced dead at the scene.

There were no passengers in the Trailblazer and Eckstein had to be freed by the Jaws of Life.

Officials tell NBC 25 that everyone was wearing their safety belts and neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be factors.

There was heavy snow on the roadway at the time of the accident.
