CITY OF MIDLAND -- The Mayor of Midland gave her State of the City last night, focusing on the large budget deficit that the city is facing.

For the sixth year in a row Midland is facing a budget deficit.

The budget gap this year is more than $1.5 million.

Mayor Maureen Donker says although Midland has major budget issues, the city will overcome them due to strong leadership.

Maureen Donker, Mayor of Midland: "We did talk about a half mil tax increase, that's a possibility. We're working real hard to keep that low. We're not sure if that's going to happen. Our budget comes before council in April."

The mayor also highlighted several accolades for the city including being named one of the safest communities.
