GENESEE TOWNSHIP -- A woman who was pulled unconscious from her mobile home yesterday afternoon has died.

Fire crews rushed to the Dutch Village mobile home park just after 5 p.m. Tuesday after reports of smoke coming from a trailer.

“The front door was locked so I had to kick the door in,” said Mount Morris Assistant Fire Chief Damon Tobias said.  “I was the first one on scene so I did a quick search as far as I could go in.”

Firefighters found 71-year-old Elaine Metzger unconscious.

“She was about 10 or 15 feet inside of the house,” Tobias said.

The woman was rushed to the hospital. She was pronounced dead,

Neighbors know Metzger as the “dog lady,” and say she is well-liked in the neighborhood.

“She’s always walking her dog Brooklyn with her son, always waving, she would stop and talk to us in the summertime," said Victoria Wallace.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
