Truck was driven from Cheyenne, Wyoming to Flint for special event
FLINT -- Flint Truck Assembly hosted a special homecoming ceremony for a Chevrolet C10 Cheyenne pickup which rolled off the line in 1971.
"We put a quality vehicle out to the customers and I love that they still bring them back after millions of miles or several, several years. Driving them 21 hundred miles across the country and it never left him stranded on a road neither," said UAW Local 598 Chairman Barry Campbell, referring to the journey taken by Howard Elmer.
Elmer, an automotive journalist, recently purchased the truck in Colorado and decided to drive it through the truck's namesake on his way to Flint.
"Its been in the 90's all the way across the plains. We have no air conditioning, the winds have been cranked wide open. The only good news is its kept conversation to a minimum," Elmer said, when describing the trip he and his wife are finishing up.
The pickup is rust free, and has its orginal cab headliner, padded dash and hound's-tooth fabric seats.
Elmer will complete the final leg of the journey by driving the truck from Flint to his home in Toronto, Canada.
