FLINT -- A Michigan State Police trooper was injured on Wednesday night after being dragged 235 feet by an SUV during a high-speed chase on the northwest side of Flint.

On Thursday NBC25 learned that the trooper got his arm caught in the seatbelt.  The suspect is currently in police custody.

MLive identified the suspect as Hiram Bell, 30, who was arraigned and faced a judge on several charges on Thursday.

He is charged with felony assault with intent to commit great bodily harm, third degree fleeing and alluding police, resisting arrest causing injury, possesion of marijuana, driving while license suspended and operating a vehicle with open intoxicants.

The trooper and his partner pulled a white SUV over near King Street and Van Wagoner around 8 p.m. for a traffic stop.

The suspect then fled, injuring one of the troopers, before surrendering in Max Brandon Park at around 8:15 p.m.

"Came up and checked on the trooper who said he was okay to go after the suspect. A brief vehicle pursuit ensued. Flint PD unites assisted with the pursuit," said MSP Flint Post Assistant Post Commander Lt. Jason Teddy.

Witnesses say the suspect was fleeing police at speeds between 80 and 90 miles per hour.

The injured trooper was taken to Hurley Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.  He was treated and relased.
