SVSU among seven Michigan schools to receive foster youth grant

MID-MICHIGAN -- Seven michigan colleges and universities are sharing an $800,000 grant to provide former foster youth with a support program to help them succeed in higher education.

The funding will pay for a social worker at each school to help former foster youth.

Saginaw Valley State University is among the schools sharing the grant.

"We really know what it means for these people to be out there on their own and we are so happy to be able to embrace them and provide supportive services," Department of Social Work employee Vanessa Brooks said.

Other schoosl shring the grant are Baker College of Flint and the University of Michigan-Flint.
