MOUNT PLEASANT -- A Central Michigan University student diagnosed with meningitis has died.

According to a news release from the school, Nicholas Collins tested positive for meningococcal meningitis.

Officials at CMU are now treating students with antibiotics to prevent further outbreak of the disease.

Collins lived in Trout Hall at CMU's main campus.  The school is asking anyone who was in close quarters with Collins to contact the Wayne County Health Department at 734-727-7078. Central Michigan's Health Services can also be contacted at 989-774-6577.  The univesity said oral secretion contact will put people at risk.

Collins was considered contagious between April 30 and May 7.
