FLINT -- Relatives are collecting donations to help a Flint family who escaped from their burning home Thursday morning.

It happened on Brown Street around 2 a.m., when nine-year-old Benny Peterson woke up to the smell of smoke and alerted his parents and siblings.

The family narrowly escaped, but the family's dog died in the fire.

Donations to the Peterson family can be sent to 1622 Mable Avenue in Flint.
