Ullon awarded the Purple Heart
MIDLAND -- Navy seaman Aaron Ullom, 20, was laid to rest Friday evening in his native Midland, ten days after dying while serving in Afghanistan.
"Going down the side of the roads today the procession, it was just amazing to see all the people that turned out to show their repect to the family and to Aaron," said family friend Richard Boothe.
Ullom was awarded several medals for his sacrifice, including the Purple Heart and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
"It was just really touching for the service and just the procession. It just made me really proud to be an American and Aaron, he is a true American hero," added Roxanne Affholter.
Governor Rick Snyder also ordered all flags in Michigan to be flown at half-staff Friday, in honor of Ullom.
