FLINT -- For those attending St. Michael's Church today Saint Patrick’s Day is more than a celebration but a day of remembrance and honoring those who came before them.

"This is our 32nd year that mass has been held here, and the bishop said the mass and we are so fortunate because it is a Sunday he was able to come and do the mass for us and that makes the whole day," said Grand Marshal Patrick O’Reilly.

Following mass a precession marched down Saginaw Street to honor the men and women who gave their lives for the country.

"This is the cities oldest most historic park and we recognize those from all over out wars from this area who have fallen in duty," said Flint Mayor Dayne Walling.

Concluding a wreath ceremony Grand Marshal O'Reilly changing the mood for the rest of the day.

"Let’s party,” proclaims O’Reilly.

"If you are Irish this is more important than Christmas, your birthday, all combined," said Genesee County Clerk John Gleason.

A feast for all, prepared by Catholic Charities John Manse.

"I look forward to this St. Patrick’s day service and celebration every year now it's an incredible tradition that brings people from all across Mid-Michigan."

For Grand Marshal Patrick O'Reilly this years celebration will always be one of his fondest memories.

"I went to St. Mikes, graduated from St. Mikes and it's great to be home," said the Grand Marshal.

The celebration is continuing into the evening with a four mile run and walk through downtown Flint.
