(AP) -- ATLANTIC CITY, N.J.- A Detroit man was killed and two others injured when a 44-foot sailboat began sinking in rough seas off the New Jersey coast about 100 miles southeast of Atlantic City. The Atlantic County medical examiner yesterday pronounced 65-year-old Phil Rubright dead yesterday. Forty-four-year-old Teresa Garvie and 52-year-old Kevin Hogan of Mount Pleasant, S.C. were rescued.

The three were aboard the sailing vessel Freefall when it sent a distress signal around Tuesday night. A Coast Guard plane and helicopter were launched from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C. The rescue crews located the stricken vessel early Wednesday. A rescue swimmer also was injured in the rescue effort.
