SHIAWASSEE COUNTY -- Rougher economic times mean more people are calling on charties to help them make ends meet. But, right now, the charties are struggling to raise enough money to be able to help. So far, the agency has received more than 900 calls from people needing help.
The Shiawassee County United Way tells NBC25 its only raised a third of what it needs to be able to help the Shiawassee County community. But, the agency has received more than 900 calls from people needing help. The agency set a goal of $320,000 but it's more than $200,000 short of that goal.
Executive Director Retta Parsons tells NBC25 people don't have to give a lot to make a big difference, "Shiawassee County give or take, their population is 72,000 people, if everyone gave $20, that would be $1.4 million dollars to help everybody." Parsons says if they don't make the goal, some difficult decisions will have to be made.
