WASHINGTON (AP) -- The heads of the Big Three carmakers sit before another congressional committee Friday to ask for $34 billion.
This time, it will be in the House after Thursday's appearance in the Senate.
The CEOs are resisting pressure to go along with a pre-negotiated bankruptcy. The head of the United Auto Workers testified that that's not "a viable option," because consumers would not buy cars from bankrupt companies, no matter what the terms of the arrangement.
The Big Three appear more open to the idea of a government-run restructuring. It would likely yield similar results, including massive downsizing and labor givebacks. The leaders of General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler say they could live with a federal oversight board.
