As you count down the seconds leading to the New Year, you'll be saying 3-2-1-0-0. That's right, there's one extra second at the end of 2008.
CNN reports just before midnight a leap second will be added in order to alighn clocks with the variations in the Earth's time. Scientists measure the time by what is called "Coordinated Universal Time," which makes sure the sun is directly over the Earth at noon.
It's important to have the time correct or the internet and GPS systems could be effected.
So, enjoy that extra second New Year's evening.
