MID-MICHIGAN -- If you're still looking for a way to ring in the New Year with your family, there's plenty happening around Mid-Michigan.
Tie up your roller skates or blades! If you're looking for a fun and active way to celebrate the coming of 2009, why not hit the roller skating rink? The younger kids at Rollhaven celebrated the New Year Wednesday afternoon at the skating center. But starting Wednesday night from 8:00pm-2:00am, Roll-haven is hosting a Late Night Skate to ring in 2009. And when midnight hits, the fun begins! Kelly McCreedy of Roll-haven stated, "We have over 2,000 balloons we are going to drop at mid-night ...everyone will have noisemakers. You get two slices of pizza, a soda, and it's $15 dollars before 6:00pm, $20 at the door. There is free skate and blade rentals; activities all night long it's a blast."
But if skating isn't your thing, why not try your best shot at seeing how many tacos you can eat in 10 minutes? Starting at 7:00 tonight, Don Pablos Restaurant on Miller Rd. in Flint will be hosting their first ever, "New Year's Eve Taco Eating Contest." The world record of taco-eating in the allotted time is 48 tacos. All proceeds will go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
For the teenagers in the house, Mt. Hope Church on Embury Rd. in Grand Blanc is throwing its "Alpha 2009" New Year's Eve party. Junior High and High School students can enjoy a bounce house, pool table, games, concert-like atmosphere, and much more at this fun-filled event. The party begins at 7:00pm and goes through 1:00pm on January 1st. Cost of admission is $10.00 per student.
Enjoy music? Everyone is invited to attend the 42nd Annual New Year's Eve Gospel Concert, sponsored by the Cass City Laymen's Club at the Cass City High School. The singing begins at 7:00 pm. This year's concert will be featuring some favorite groups from across Mid-Michigan. The line-up includes The Thurstons from Holt, The Gospelmen from Mt. Morris, and the Calvaryment from Burton. A freewill offering will be taken.
No matter how you ring in the New Year, NBC25 wishes you a Happy and Safe 2009.
