BAY CITY -- The following is a message from Congressman Stupak:
U.S. Congressman Bart Stupak (D-Menominee) announced the appointment of Bay City resident Eric Reder to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Reder is scheduled to graduate from Bay City’s John Glenn High School this year.
“Eric is an accomplished, talented and driven candidate,” Stupak said. “He will represent Michigan well at West Point. I am proud to announce his appointment.”
Reder holds a cumulative grade point average of 3.858 and is ranked in the top 15 percent in his class of 242. He has also been active in soccer, football, and track, and received an outstanding achievement award in mathematics.
“I feel that I could grow and excel as an individual while attending the academy, whether it is physically, mentally or morally. The academy is an opportunity,” Reder wrote in his essay. “I see it as someway to try and repay my country back for all it has offered me.”
Beyond his academic and extracurricular activities, Reder is active in his community. He has held a number of part-time and summer jobs since 2000, volunteers his time a St. Vincent De Paul Church where he also sings in the choir, and volunteers time at his school as well.
“Eric’s hard work, many academic and extra-curricular achievements, and contributions to his community have earned him the praise of many in his community,” Stupak continued. “I am confident he can succeed at any endeavor and will thrive at the Air Force Academy.”
