BEDFORD TWP. (AP) -- Police say they believe a newborn boy was accidentally smothered while sleeping with his parents in their Calhoun County home. Two other children, ages 4 and 6, were removed from the home after officers found what appeared to be methamphetamine.

Officers responded early Wednesday to the home in Bedford Township, about 45 miles south-southeast of Grand Rapids. The Battle Creek Enquirer reports the 1-month-old was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Battle Creek police Sgt. Martin Brown says the child was sleeping in bed with his 38-year-old father and 27-year-old mother. No arrests have been made, and officers say the investigation could take two months. No names have been released.
