DETROIT (AP) -- A Detroit teenager is headed to trial on charges he fatally shot a police officer in the suburb of Oak Park. Oak Park District Judge David Gubow on Thursday determined there was enough evidence for 16-year-old Jonathan Belton to be tried on charges of first-degree premeditated murder, murder of a peace officer and two counts of felony firearm.
Arraignment in Oakland County Circuit Court is set for Feb. 24. Belton has pleaded not guilty in the Dec. 28 slaying of 28-year-old Mason Samborski. Police say Samborski was shot during a struggle at an apartment complex following a traffic stop. A message seeking comment has been left for defense attorney Wright Blake.
