NOVI (AP) -- A Flint security guard who police saypretended to be an officer and made traffic stops has been sentenced to nine months' probation. Novi District Judge Brian MacKenzie on Wednesday sentenced 23-year-old William Byron Burton to community service and life-adjustment therapy as part of his probation.

Burton pleaded no contest to impersonating a public official. If he successfully completes probation, the charge will be dismissed. Defense attorney Amy Harris said Friday Burton thought he wasdoing his job when he pulled over speeding cars in Oakland County's Highland Township, about 35 miles northwest of Detroit. She says he didn't mean to do anything wrong.
