JACKSON (AP) -- At least five motorists received an unwelcome surprise last weekend after buying gasoline that had been contaminated with water at a Meijer station. A couple of the vehicles stalled out and were towed to area repair shops. The Jackson Citizen Patriot and WLNS-TV report Meijer has reimbursed customers for the gas and will pay for any needed repairs to their vehicles.
Meijer is investigating to determine how water seeped into an underground fuel storage tank at the gas station. Water from melting snow and ice near the fuel tank might have caused the problem. Meijer had closed down the affected pumps by Saturday afternoon to prevent anyone else from buying the bad gasoline.
