SAGINAW -- Tough cuts for parents, students and staff in the Saginaw School District, the board votes tonight to close three schools.
Coulter and Jerome elementary schools along with Webber K-8 will all close their doors at the end of the school year.
That means more than 600 students will have to find a new school.
Part of the reason is declining enrollment, the other is overspending.
"Yes we did overspend our revenue, but that money was used for the students," said Safiya Mosley, Saginaw School Spokeswoman.
"We have to make more modifications and reductions. All so we can best educate our students."
Saginaw schools could face up to a $2.3 million deficit.
As a result the district has to make more cuts.
Last month dozens of employees, including 20 teachers were laid off.
Tonight concerned parents came to find out what would happen to their children's schools.
"The circumstances behind the reason it's very disheartening that unfortunately administration and kids are taking the bulk end of real bad decision making," says Tana Nichols, parent.
"They're not only teachers they're like parents," says Maggie Donald, parent.
"They are very concerned about the students. What goes on in the community the kids just need Coulter."
I did call the Michigan Department of Education, the school district has never been in a deficit before and it's too early to predict if there will be a takeover.
The Department of Education says it won't know exactly how big the deficit is, until an audit is completed in November.
