LANSING (AP) -- A Michigan panel has postponed a vote on whether to recommend a 10 percent pay cut for state elected officials because of a legal complication over judges' salaries.
The State Officers Compensation Commission on Thursday decided to table a motion to cut pay. Another meeting will be set once the panel gets legal guidance from the state attorney general's office.
The cuts could affect salaries for the governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, secretary of state, Supreme Court justices and lawmakers in 2011.
The State Bar of Michigan opposed a pay cut for judges. It notedthe Michigan Constitution makes it difficult to cut judges' pay because it also would require a simultaneous and identical pay cut for all state workers.
