HOUGHTON (AP) -- The Houghton County prosecutor says he won't file charges against the owner of a 100-pound dog that was found frozen to the ground in the Upper Peninsula community of Hancock.
WLUC-TV reports that Prosecutor Fraser Strome announced the decision Wednesday.
The malamute named Sutton was brought to a veterinary clinic by police, who found the animal covered with snow Jan. 26. The National Weather Service reported area temperatures that day only got up to 6 degrees.
Strome said the owner, its original breeder and a veterinarian decided to euthanize Sutton on Feb. 5 because of his age and medical condition.
Sutton was more than 14 years old. Authorities say the dog's age and arthritis contributed to him freezing to the ground.
