LANSING (AP) -- Gov. Jennifer Granholm is focusing on road improvements as one of the first benefits from the federal stimulus money that soon should be headed to Michigan.
But the list of needed road repairs is so long the stimulus money won't cover all of them.
Granholm met with local planners from the Lansing area Thursday morning to discuss how transportation funding from the new stimulus package will work in Michigan.
She planned to meet later Thursday with officials in Flint and Detroit and will hold meetings Friday in Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo.
Michigan could get roughly $850 million in road money from the federal stimulus package over the next couple of years. It will be distributed through existing formulas but would still need state lawmakers' approval.
