PONTIAC (AP) -- Police in Pontiac say an officer fatally shot a 22-year-old man who pulled out a handgun during an early morning traffic stop.
The Detroit News and Detroit Free Press report the shooting took place about 4 a.m. Thursday after the officer and his partner pulled over a car containing two women and two men.
Police say one of the men pulled out a pistol. They say the officer warned the man to drop the gun before firing.
The man was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. His name was not released pending notification of his family. The other three occupants were not injured.
The officer and his partner are on paid administrative leave pending an investigation.
