KENTWOOD (AP) -- The Roskam Baking Co. in Kentwood says it plans an $18 million expansion that would create 160 new jobs during the next two years.

The privately owned commercial bakery makes cereal, croutons and snack mixes under contract for major food companies.

Roskam told The Grand Rapids Press for a story published Tuesday that it is expanding into four more food lines for its clients. It declined to be more specific.

The company has asked the Grand Rapids suburb for an eight-year tax abatement on its investment at two existing sites.

The Kentwood City Commission has scheduled a March 17 public hearing on the request.
