HOWELL (AP) -- A prosecutor says a Livingston County sheriff's deputy was justified in shooting a soldier on leave from the U.S. Army.
The Detroit News, WHMI-FM and the Livingston County Daily Press & Argus report Prosecutor David Morse said Friday the deputy was reasonable in "fearing for his personal safety" in the shooting Jan. 9.
Morse says the Walled Lake man was shot once in the abdomen as he tried to grab the deputy's gun. The deputy suffered a bite on his hand during the struggle outside his patrol car in Tyrone Township, about 40 miles northwest of Detroit.
The deputy reported the man was intoxicated and named in an arrest warrant.
Morse says charges still could be filed against the shooting victim.
