WASHINGTON (AP) -- Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm has told an auto industry task force that the automakers and parts suppliers are interlinked and crucial to her state's economy.
Granholm met with the Obama administration panel Tuesday. She urged the panel to help General Motors, Chrysler and struggling auto suppliers. She said the panel made clear the importance of a viable U.S. auto industry.
Granholm's home state has been hard-hit by the decline of GM and Chrysler, which have received $17.4 billion in federal loans to stay afloat.
The two companies want the government to provide an additional $21.6 billion in aid as part of a massive turnaround plan. The panel is trying to restructure GM and Chrysler by March 31.
