LANSING (AP) -- The amount of money spent lobbying Michigan state government officials rose about 6% in 2008.
The Michigan Campaign Finance Network said Monday the more than $34 million spent last year is a record. The nonpartisan group's report is based on records filed with the Michigan secretary of state's office.
Multi-client lobbying firms continue to spend the most money in Lansing. Governmental Consultant Services Inc. spent the most at more than $1.45 million.
Reynolds American Inc. was the top-spending corporate lobbyist at $470,832. That ranks seventh overall.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan was next at $434,045.
