April is sexual assault awareness month. Throughout the month there are several community events in which people can get involved to help raise awareness for sexual assault and help end the crime.
During "The Clothesline Project," shirts will be decorated to represent particular woman's experiences and will be hung on clotheslines to display and bring awareness to the community. The following locations are also drop off points for cell phone drives to benefit the Bay Area Women's Center:
April 9th- Clothesline project from 10:00am-2:00pm at Saint Mary's Hospital in Standish.
April 15th- Clothesline project from 10:00am-2:00pm at Bay Regional Medical Center in Bay City.
On April 20thm the Bay County Court system will host a Mock Trial at 1:00 p.m. at which Judge Timothy Kelly will preside for a public enactment of a sexual assault case. The "jury" will conclude with a verdict approximately two hours later.
On April 25th, the Bay Area Women's Center will host Operation Freefall, a national two-mile high stand against sexual assault. To participate in the skydiving event or for more information call 989-686-4551.
Finally, on April 28th, a survivor's vigil will be held at the Bay Area Women's Center at 5:30 p.m.
