FLINT -- Flint is seeking more than $9 million in Federal funds to hire up to 50 police officers for four years.

The grant would come from stimulus dollars and would cover entry level wages and benefits for three years; the city would be responsible for the fourth year of employment.

The Police Department is also applying for a $1.3 million grant which would pay for new cruisers and other equipment for the department.

Grant recipients will be announced this summer.
